Unfriending Facebook

How does Facebook prevent a decline in user penetration?

If you put ‘Unfriending Facebook’ in your blog title, you’ll get a lot of people reading it. Unfortunately, unfriending isn’t the real question.  As we can see from the article, very few are unfriending (http://www.emarketer.com/Article/Teens-Really-Unfriending-Facebook/1010598/1)  The real question is whether they are spending more or less time on the site.  If Time on Site goes down, then these teens want to continue to maintain their connections, they have just found some other avenues to entertain themselves.

New apps and alternative social media sources are enabling teens to connect in new and exciting ways. Facebook has been known to take action ‘buying’ up apps and similar programs such as the acquisition of Instagram. Facebook has found ways to stay prevalent and hold on to users  time on site, but how long can that last?
Alexa provides some great statistics and at least in comparison with the last 3 months, time on site has increased 2%.  When this starts to decline, then this is when we and Facebook have to worry.
